LoungeWizard's Pet Guide

Post by LoungeWizard »

Greetings fellow adventurers!

Pets are one of the most interesting aspects of RPGMO. Most importantly, pets provide increased carry capacity (up to a maximum of +24). Pets often provide a variety of other stat boosts like +speed, attack (+power, +aim), defense (+armor), and archery (+archery and/or increased arrow damage). Pets also allow you to customize the aesthetic impact of your character, showing to you and other players the pet you are actually using, or virtually through the use of a Pet Shelter. Some players turn off pet visibility to minimize screen clutter, and this guide may not be for them

There are so many pets in the game! It can be a bit overwhelming for a new player to figure out which pets are the best, which are actually available, what a pet is worth on the market, and when to upgrade. To do your own research, use the ingame command /wiki pet. From here you can enter a search term or click on one of the columns to sort (e.g. by level, speed, power, armor ...). MODB is another useful resource: https://modb.rpgmobob.com/#/pets

Just starting out? That's easy, you want a skill donkey. You'll need at least 20 skill in one of woodcutting, mining, jewelry, or fishing to equip this pet which may be bought for cheap from the trader in Dorpat. Don't get a regular donkey, those are for the breeding skill and won't help you right now. A skill donkey upgrades (evolves) twice by accumulating experience as you gain experience. The catch is you cannot equip a different pet or die in the game without losing progress toward the next pet level. As a shortcut, you could try to buy a level 3 skill donkey on the market for ~200k, that way you benefit from the increased carry capacity (+16) immediately.

Ready for an upgrade? Your health points (HP) determine which pet upgrades are available to you in RPGMO. When evaluating pet stats, priority should be given to +power, +speed, and carry capacity. Pets with improved combat stats are useful if they allow you to survive against more dangerous monsters, make fewer trips to the chest for food, or kill more of the same monsters faster. Pets with greater carry capacity improve your gathering efficiency and overall combat stamina. The best option for you depends on your budget, stats, gear, and playstyle.
  • COMBAT pet = excellent power but limited speed or carry capacity
  • SPEED GATHERER pet = good speed and carry capacity
  • GATHERER pet = excellent carry capacity but limited speed
  • ALLROUNDER pet = a solid mix of combat stats, speed, and carry capacity
  • ARCHERY pet = some combination of stats useful for archery combat (see below)
  • VANITY pet = minimal useful stats relative to HP requirement (Pet Shelter or collection only)
HP 20-29. Early in the game, leveling is rapid. If coins are scarce, don't splurge on a pet that you will outgrow quickly, nor spend a bunch of time waiting on the market for a pet you may no longer need when it arrives. At this level, your trusty level 3 skill donkey with +15 speed is still one of the best options, but if you are getting restless here are some recommendations:
  • Low budget? The Warg combat pet is generally available from breeders for ~55k. HP24, +24 power, +24 armor.
  • Medium Budget? The King Ruby Dragon combat pet is generally available from pet levelers for ~350k. HP22, +50 power, +25 armor.
  • High Budget? The Spiky Dinosaur combat pet is sometimes found as low as ~850k on the market. HP24, +56 power, +70 armor.
  • Elite Budget? The Cerberus gatherer pet is sometimes found as low as ~5M on the market. HP25, +50 power, +24 capacity
  • Insane Budget? The King Pumpkin vanity allrounder pet is an old event item that may be obtained from presents or ~100M on the market. HP20, +40 power, +40 armor, +20 speed, +16 capacity. Use that extra speed to equip a +50 power hydra pouch!
  • Extinct? Several old event pets in this HP range are worthy of honorable mention, however availability is spotty and prices range from 5M to 15M+. These include the Evil Christmas Tree, Macaw, Radical Gnome, Panda, and Party Sloth.
HP 30-35. This HP range contains a plethora of old (expensive) event pets. Some of these are attractive upgrades for the skill donkey, if you are able to find one on the market and have millions of coins to spare. Pick of the litter is the Royal Poodle that may allow you to equip better gear and still maintain top speed:
  • The Toucan speed gatherer pet may be ~2M on the market. HP30, +30 power, +18 speed, +18 capacity.
  • The Silver / Golden Wolf speed gatherer pet may be ~3M on the market. HP30, +40 power, +15 speed, +21 capacity.
  • The Giant Snow Bear allrounder pet may be ~4M on the market. HP35, +30 power, +50 armor, +15 speed, +16 capacity.
  • The Hedgehog / Owl / Poodle / Raccoon speed gatherer pets may be ~4M on the market. HP30, +40 power, +15 speed, +16 capacity.
  • The Royal Poodle speed gatherer pet may be ~8M on the market. HP35, +40 armor, +35 speed, +22 capacity.
  • The Jolly Gnome vanity gatherer pet may be ~5M on the market. HP30, +60 power, +20 armor, +21 capacity.
  • The Buck / Hembra / Sheep vanity gatherer pets may be ~6M on the market. HP30, +60 power, +20 armor, +21 capacity.
  • The German Shepard vanity gatherer pet may be ~15M on the market. HP30, +60 power, +20 armor, +21 capacity.
  • The Emperor Penguin vanity gatherer pet may be ~15M on the market. HP30, +50 power, +20 armor, +22 capacity.
HP 36-49. Herein lies a stew of pets with fatal flaws. Swerve all of the expensive sideways maneuvers and focus on these notable exceptions:
  • Low Budget? The Soul Trapper combat pet is available from breeders as low as ~170k. HP38, +56 power, +36 armor.
  • Low Budget? The Tyrannosaurus vanity combat pet is available from breeders as low as ~260k. HP44, +48 power, +60 armor.
  • High Budget? The Funnel Spider archery speed gatherer pet may be found as low as ~4M on the market. HP40, +20 speed, +22 capacity.
  • Elite Budget? The Shiny Ruby Wyvern combat gatherer pet may be ~7M on the market. HP45, +60 power, +80 armor, +23 capacity.
  • Up for a challenge? Try to buy a level 1 Ruby Wyvern for under ~1M and then adventure for 3 stones of evolution. Archery may be key.
HP 50-64. If you haven't upgraded yet, this HP range is sure to tempt you with several exciting options!
  • The Fire Heart Dragon combat pet is available from breeders as low as ~750k. HP62, +81 power, +56 armor.
  • The Diablo combat pet is worth ~13M but may occasionally be found as low as ~10M. HP62, +90 power, +58 armor.
  • The Giant Devil Bat allrounder pet is an old and exceptional event item. Run, do not walk, if you are lucky enough to find this pet on the market for under ~10M. HP58, +70 power, +70 armor, +15 speed, +20 capacity.
HP 65-79. This HP range unlocks the best gathering pet in the game, as well as a couple nice (albeit unnecessary) combat pet upgrades:
  • High Budget? The Saint Dragon combat pet may be found as low as ~5M. HP65, +100 power, +65 armor.
  • High Budget? The Archsky Dragon combat pet may be found as low as ~7M. HP69, +110 power, +71 armor.
  • High Budget? The Christmas Sleigh [Ancient] speed gatherer pet may be found for ~8M. HP65, +30 speed, +24 capacity.
  • Elite Budget? The Crystal Deer vanity speed gatherer pet may be found for ~15M. HP65, +100 armor, +30 speed, +18 capacity.
  • Insane Budget? The Seraph vanity combat gatherer pet is an old event item that may be obtained from presents or ~150M on the market. HP65, +50 power, +50 armor, +24 capacity. Elite at guarding collection books.
HP 80-89. Congratulations! You've reached the HP range many players consider the end of the early game, and the beginning of the era where expensive upgrades to jewelry, gear, and pets are critical to progress. Celebrate your achievement with a shiny new dragon!
  • The Obsidian Dragon combat pet is worth ~13M and may be found as low as ~11M. HP80, +120 power, +78 armor.
  • The Ancient Ice Golem combat pet may be found as low as ~5M. HP80, +120 power, +70 armor. Note, this pet is only recommended as a budget option for use in the towers due to -20 speed! As an event item it may increase in value over time, up to 15M.
  • The Giant Crystal Bear allrounder pet may be found for ~10M. HP85, +50 power, +120 armor, +25 speed, +20 capacity. This is a great looking pet that would be incredible if available at a lower HP, pick it up early and enjoy until 93.
  • The Sun Pegasus vanity speed gatherer pet may be found as low as ~5M. HP83, +130 armor, +25 speed, +16 capacity. This pet is an unconventional option due to the lack of +power, but may be of interest to unique builds looking for +aim and +armor.
HP 90-95. This HP range includes several interesting pets, of which Sleipnir is most recommended:
  • The Catoblepas vanity speed gatherer pet may occasionally be found for ~25M. HP92, +160 armor, +15 speed, +18 capacity. Another unconventional option due to lack of +power, however quite effective for some builds in the towers. Careful, this one is difficult to resell.
  • The Adult Valravn vanity combat pet is worth ~25M, don't be tricked into paying more! HP93, +102 power, +170 armor. Technically a breeding parent which bolsters resale value, this one is also quite effective in the towers due to high defense.
  • The Marble Unicorn vanity speed gatherer pet may be found as low as ~2.5M. HP93, +119 armor, +28 speed, +18 capacity. The claim to fame for this pet is early access in Cathedral due to high +aim on a budget. Dispose at NPC for 2M.
  • The Sleipnir allrounder pet may be found as low as ~6.5M. HP93, +84 power, +130 armor, +34 speed, +20 capacity. This pet is the very definition of allrounder, useful for gathering, combat, and surprisingly effective in the towers. Excellent investment, strong resale value, although temporarily dismissed during high availability of the royal poodle and christmas sleigh. Availability guaranteed due to breeders.
  • The Xirador combat pet may be found as low as ~2.5M. HP94, +133 power, +86 armor. Seemingly out of place in a sea of expensive pets, this one is an obvious, however short lived, upgrade. Clumsy outside the tower (no speed), weak in the tower (low armor).
HP 96. This is it, the moment you have been grinding for! Hopefully you saved up along the way, as this HP level does not contain cheap pets:
  • The Elder Xalanth combat pet is worth 50-55M and may be found as low as ~45M if you are extremely lucky or patient. HP96, +187 power, +140 armor. This pet is simply elite at combat, easy on the eyes, incredible resale value. Do not skip this pet!
  • The Elder Rael vanity combat pet is worth ~85M but availability is extremely rare. HP96, +189 power, +189 armor. Rael is actually better than Xal vs lower defense monsters but compromised where it counts in the towers and Cathedral due to lack of +aim.
  • The Elder Tesselth vanity combat pet may occasionally be found for ~60M. HP96, +140 power, +187 armor. Arguably the weakest of the 96 gang, this pet remains a juggernaut in the tower for any build that prioritizes defense. Careful, this one is difficult to resell.
HP 97-109.
  • The Elder Bies archery speed gatherer pet may be found as low as ~??M on the market. HP102, +262 armor, +20 speed, +20 capacity. Primarily the premier archery pet, this one is also adept at gathering in hostile areas. Value in flux due to Hrungnir.
  • The Elder Quetzalcoatl vanity speed gatherer pet is generally unavailable on the market. HP104, +250 armor, +20 speed, +19 capacity. A beautiful disaster, this pet is most effective for vanity. To obtain, level your breeding skill to 118 or become friends with a top breeder!
  • The Elder Gegenees combat pet may be found as low as ~62M on the market. HP106, +288 power. No illusions, just power.
Get this pet as early as you can and use it in all combat situations that you can reasonably expect to survive, unless you don't like to level.
HP 110-115.
  • The Elder Aspidochelone combat tank pet may be found as low as ~103M on the market. HP110, +384 armor. This pet is one you use in situations you must due to best in slot +armor and +aim, specifically early Cathedral, towers, and tomb guardians.
  • The Elder Arachne vanity combat tank pet is worth ~70M and found rarely on the market. HP113, +207 armor. This pet is the queen of spiders, a wonderful vanity companion, yet unfortunately ineffective in game with respect to alternatives.
HP 116-119.
  • The Elder Typhon combat pet is worth ~60M on the market. HP116, +216 power, +162 armor. Although some players skip this pet, it is a solid upgrade from Xal and can make a difference in more dangerous areas like Dungeon IV. Please note, may be slow to resell.
  • The Elder Bucentaur allrounder pet is worth ~80M on the market. HP118, +180 power, +240 armor, +20 speed, +17 capacity. There is at least one niche scenario where this pet excels, and that is bridging the gap between Aspid and Jorm when farming tomb guardians, however most players skip this pet due to rarity and cost. Caution, may be extremely difficult to resell!
HP 120+.
  • The Elder Jormungandr allrounder pet is worth ~150M on the market. HP120, +240 power, +180 armor, +15 speed, +20 capacity. Enter the dragon, this is the end-game pet each player cannot help but notice and dreams to acquire. Not the best at anything, but great at everything. Resale value is irrelevant, only breeders sell a Jorm.
  • The Game Master [Ancient] combat gatherer pet exists in the /wiki to tease everyone. HP150, +500 power, +500 armor, +24 capacity. As far as we know, there is no viable method, trick, easter egg, or strategy to obtain or unlock this incredible pet.
This guide is a combination of my experience and nearly verbatim advice given each day in game by wise and helpful players. If you have examples that make a pet not mentioned here viable in game, please comment below. Thanks for reading, and best of luck with your pets!
